When ChatGPT was unveiled in November 2022, it quickly became the center of attention for tech enthusiasts worldwide. Developed by OpenAI, ChatGPT has made significant progress since its inception. Following its release, many companies have developed their own AI chatbots to compete with this popular tool. Among them is Anthropic, founded by former OpenAI employees. Anthropic has recently launched its latest generative AI model, Claude 3.5 Sonnet, which they consider their most advanced model yet.

Claude 3.5 Sonnet possesses the capability to analyze both text and images, delivering improved performance across various AI benchmarks compared to its predecessors. It excels in reading comprehension, coding, mathematics, and vision tasks. While benchmarks may not always represent an AI model’s real-world utility, Claude 3.5 Sonnet has demonstrated slight superiority over leading models like OpenAI’s GPT-4o in specific tests conducted by Anthropic.

Anthropic claims that Claude 3.5 Sonnet exhibits an improved understanding of complex instructions and concepts like humor. Additionally, the model’s speed is approximately twice as fast as Claude 3 Opus, making it ideal for applications requiring quick responses, such as customer service bots.

In terms of vision capabilities, Claude 3.5 Sonnet shows significant advancements over its previous version. It can interpret charts and graphs with higher accuracy and transcribe text from imperfect images. These improvements are credited to architectural enhancements and new training data, including AI-generated datasets.

Michael Gerstenhaber, Anthropic’s product lead, highlighted the practical benefits of these enhancements, emphasizing that Claude 3.5 Sonnet will better meet business needs compared to existing models.

Claude 3.5 Sonnet maintains a context window similar to Claude 3 Sonnet, capable of analyzing up to 200,000 tokens before generating new text. This feature allows for handling complex tasks effectively.

The new model is now available for users. Free users of Anthropic’s web client and the Claude iOS app can access it at no cost, while subscribers to paid plans like Claude Pro and Claude Team enjoy higher rate limits. Claude 3.5 Sonnet is also accessible through Anthropic’s API and managed platforms such as Amazon Bedrock and Google Cloud’s Vertex AI.
