Chery’s Exlantix ET Named Car of the Year 2024: A Look into Innovative Features and International Expansion

China Central Television (CCTV) has announced that Chery’s Exlantix ET, a cutting-edge new energy crossover, has been awarded the prestigious title of Car of the Year 2024. This accolade not only highlights Chery’s commitment to innovation in the automotive industry but also marks the brand’s bold step into international markets, including Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia.

Celebrating Excellence at the China Auto Awards

On January 27, 2024, CCTV hosted the fifth annual China Auto Awards ceremony, a gala often referred to as the "Oscars of the Automotive World" in China. The event, broadcast on the CCTV-2 channel, featured a jury composed of esteemed representatives from the CATARC research center, the Association of Automobile Manufacturers and Dealers, the Society of Automotive Engineers, and the Council for the Promotion of International Trade in the Automotive Industry.

The Exlantix ET stood out among 31 shortlisted models, clinching the coveted title of Car of the Year. According to Chery’s Executive Vice President, Gao Xinhua, the vehicle’s success was attributed to its innovative range extender system, four-wheel drive, and intelligent driving capabilities.

The EREV Variant: Power and Efficiency Combined

The Exlantix ET offers an Enhanced Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) variant that is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged generator. With a noteworthy thermal efficiency of 44.5%, it boasts a fuel consumption rate of just 5.9 liters per 100 kilometers. This model comes equipped with a 67-liter fuel tank, enabling a remarkable mixed range of 1500 km under CLTC conditions.

Moreover, its Gotion-made LFP battery provides a 41 kWh capacity, allowing the ET crossover to achieve an impressive 240 km of range in Electric Vehicle (EV) mode.

Versatile Performance Through Advanced Technology

The Exlantix ET is engineered with a robust four-wheel drive system that integrates two electric motors — one in the front axle generating up to 150 kW (201 hp) and another in the rear producing 195 kW (261 hp). Collectively, they yield a total power output of 345 kW (485 hp) and 634 Nm of torque.

Performance-wise, the Exlantix ET accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds, delivering a thrilling driving experience. The vehicle’s intelligent driving system, powered by two Nvidia Orin-X chips capable of 508 TOPS of computing power, enables advanced features like map-free intelligent driving through 30 different sensors.

A Closer Look at the Exlantix ET’s Design and Features

The Exlantix ET is a five-seat SUV with dimensions of 4955 mm x 1975 mm x 1698 mm and a wheelbase of 3000 mm. This model features an air suspension system provided by Khat, a supplier also catering to several major automobile brands. Thanks to this system, the ground clearance measures a notable 240 mm.

In addition to the EREV variant, the Exlantix ET is also available with RWD options that can produce 195 kW, outfitted with a 31-kWh LFP battery pack from CATL. Further extending its versatility, the SUV offers Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) variants that deliver between 313 hp and 562 hp, with battery options of 77 kWh and 100 kWh.

Global Expansion: Ready for International Markets

This year marks a pivotal moment for the Exlantix ET as it gears up for entry into overseas markets. The international version of the vehicle will feature a redesigned front end, complete with a grille imitation, enhancing its appeal. The Exlantix ET’s competitive domestic price ranges from 189,800 to 319,800 yuan (approximately $26,175 to $44,100), positioning it as an attractive option for global consumers.
