(Reuters) -OpenAI CEO Sam Altman reportedly informed shareholders that the company is contemplating a governance restructuring to operate as a for-profit entity not controlled by OpenAI’s nonprofit board, as per The Information on Friday.
Altman mentioned that one possibility being considered by the board is transitioning to a for-profit benefit corporation, a model that competing organizations like Anthropic and xAI have already adopted, the report noted based on sources familiar with the discussions.
OpenAI has yet to respond to Reuters’ request for a statement.
