We are uncertain about whether OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, is currently profitable. However, according to a recent report from The Information, OpenAI has seen a significant growth in its annualized revenue, doubling it in the past six months.

According to CEO Sam Altman, OpenAI’s annualized revenue now stands at $3.4 billion, up from $1.6 billion at the end of last year and $1 billion a year ago. The majority of this revenue comes from a subscription-based version of ChatGPT, which offers increased messaging limits for a monthly fee of at least $20, as well as from developers who pay to utilize the company’s extensive language models in their own applications and services. A portion of this revenue, around $200 million annually, is generated through a partnership with Microsoft, who shares a percentage of sales of OpenAI’s language models to users of Azure, Microsoft’s cloud computing platform for businesses.

In response to the report, an OpenAI representative disputed the accuracy of the financial details provided without specifying which aspects were in question. OpenAI has yet to respond to requests for comment from Engadget.

Recently, Apple announced a collaboration with OpenAI, intending to integrate ChatGPT into their iOS devices and Macs, allowing Siri to access ChatGPT for answering queries. The specifics of this partnership agreement remain undisclosed at this time.
