ChatGPT in the app store

ChatGPT can assist with various on-the-go tasks like quick texts, emails, and more. To make accessing its help easier on your phone, ChatGPT is allegedly releasing a new widget for Android users.

Android OS expert Mishaal Rahman recently identified a home screen widget on Android that provides shortcuts for entering text, images, or voice prompts, or starting conversation mode as shown in the image below.

According to Rahman, the widget feature is present in version 1.2024.052 of the app. However, in our testing and as confirmed by The Verge, the widget may not be available despite using the latest app version.

This discrepancy suggests that the observed widget by Rahman might be a beta feature awaiting public rollout, given that the app version in stores is lower than the one shared by Rahman in his post.

Accessing the chatbot on your Android phone remains straightforward through the ChatGPT app, offering a shortcut to use without the need to navigate to a browser and sign in repeatedly for ChatGPT’s aid.

If you’re eager to use the ChatGPT widget, you can alternatively download the Bing app and add the Bing widget to your home screen. This provides access to Copilot, Microsoft’s AI chatbot that competes with ChatGPT effectively.
