In the world of artificial intelligence, the question “Where’s Ilya?” has been on everyone’s minds for the past few months. Ilya Sutskever, the co-founder of OpenAI, was involved in the 2023 board ouster of Sam Altman as CEO before ultimately helping bring Altman back. After that incident, Sutskever remained quiet, leaving his future at OpenAI uncertain. However, in mid-May, Sutskever announced his departure, hinting at revealing his next project at a later date.

Now, Sutskever has unveiled his new venture, Safe Superintelligence Inc., a research organization dedicated to developing a safe and powerful artificial intelligence system. Unlike other companies like OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic, Safe Superintelligence Inc. has no immediate plans to sell AI products or services. Sutskever emphasizes that the focus of this company will be solely on creating safe superintelligence, free from the pressures of competition and product development. In an exclusive interview, Sutskever shares, “This company’s primary goal will be the development of safe superintelligence, with no distractions from other ventures. It will operate independently from external pressures, allowing for a more focused approach.”
