Microsoft added a Copilot chatbot to its Bing search engine earlier this year in February. Now, the tech giant has started rolling out an update for the Windows 11 PC operating system which brings a new version of this chatbot (in preview) integrated into the software. The latest Windows 11 2023 update, also known as 23H2, will add the Copilot chatbot to the world’s most widely used PC operating system.

Meanwhile, the company is also set to start selling the Microsoft 365 Copilot AI add-on software for corporate workers who use its productivity apps on November 1. The latest update to Windows includes several new features, in addition to Copilot. These include an auto-compose feature in Clipchamp, more languages for Windows Narrator, instant games, the ability to copy text from screenshots, and AI powers for Paint.

What is Windows 11 Copilot
Windows Copilot is similar to the popular ChatGPT chatbot which was developed by Microsoft-backed AI startup OpenAI. This generative AI chatbot can also create human-like text and other content with just a few words of prompts.

The chatbot relies on underlying large language models that Microsoft-backed OpenAI has trained huge sets of data. This helps the chatbot to compose email text, answer questions and automatically perform actions in Windows.

Windows 11 Copilot update: How to download
In a blog post, Microsoft has detailed how to get the Windows 11 PC version 23H2 update. Once the update is available, open the Settings app, navigate to the Windows Update section and hit the “Check for updates” button. The company has also detailed the process for education and commercial customers to download the update in the blog.

Expand

However, it is important to note that the Windows Copilot is still in preview. The tool is available only in North America and parts of Asia as well as South America. The company has plans to expand the feature to other regions in the coming days. Since it’s a phased rollout, the update will not be available for all users immediately.

Windows 11 Copilot: Importance
The Windows Copilot comes with multiple PC-specific features. This includes the ability to open apps, switch to dark mode, turn on Bluetooth and take different types of screenshots.

Edge browser users can access Copilot to get a summary of a website’s content, while Mac users can talk to Siri. However, Siri’s responses are not as comprehensive as those provided by Windows Copilot.

Microsoft also claimed that Copilot will be more capable than Cortana. Microsoft introduced the older assistant in 2015 with the launch of Windows 10 and has been gradually eliminated by the company.
