Pixellot is revolutionizing sports broadcasting and analytics by leveraging vision AI. As a member of the NVIDIA Metropolis vision AI partner ecosystem, Pixellot offers an AI-powered platform that automates the capturing, streaming, and analysis of sporting events. It caters to a wide range of sports, including basketball, soccer, rugby, and handball, and broadcasts events from over 30,000 venues in 70+ countries. Notably, Pixellot powers the broadcasting of over a million games annually in the US through its partnership with the NFHS Network.

Through partnerships with organizations like the NFHS Network and MLB, Pixellot provides professional analytics, post-match breakdowns, and highlights. These features include shot charts, heat maps, and jersey number-based analytics, which are highly beneficial for coaches and players looking to improve their performance. Additionally, Pixellot enables interactive experiences for users who can manipulate viewframes and create their own game highlights.

Recently, South African company SuperSport Schools deployed the Pixellot platform to broadcast student athletics across the nation. Over 1,500 high schools actively participate in sports, and Pixellot’s AI technology allows for widespread coverage, even in remote areas.

How Pixellot Works

Pixellot operates its platform using lightweight cameras powered by NVIDIA Jetson. These cameras capture high-quality footage of games and livestream them in real time through an app. The app provides viewers with an overlaid scoreboard, live stats, commentary, and other features to enhance the viewing experience. The platform also utilizes NVIDIA RTX ray-tracing technology to optimize videos and correct scene lighting, providing a seamless and professional broadcast.

Furthermore, Pixellot enables over-the-top (OTT) streaming, eliminating the need for traditional cable or satellite TV providers. This allows for greater accessibility to sports, making them more easily viewable to a global audience.

Pixellot relies on the NVIDIA DeepStream software development kit for AI-powered video streaming analytics and the NVIDIA TensorRT SDK for high-performance deep learning inference. According to Gal Oz, the CTO and co-founder of Pixellot, NVIDIA Jetson has played a crucial role in creating accurate and affordable AI-powered camera solutions for broadcasting live sporting events.

Broadcasting South African School Sports

Pixellot’s deployment in South Africa through SuperSport Schools has enabled high-quality and real-time broadcasts of student athletics. With access to NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX, Pixellot can process AI-powered video and perform GPU-accelerated computing right on the field or courtside. This allows for broadcasts to occur in any location, empowering individuals to share moments with their children even when physically absent.

The SuperSport Schools app, powered by Pixellot, recently achieved 600,000 subscribers. It became the first to broadcast a junior nationals track race in South Africa, where historic national records were broken. Users from around the world could witness these monumental victories through the app.

Building a Smart Sports City in China

Pixellot’s technology is also being utilized in China to support the development of a smart sports city. The city of Chengdu is focusing on broadcasting community soccer as part of its strategic vision to provide innovative technology solutions to communities. By utilizing Pixellot’s AI-driven sports production solutions, Chengdu aims to promote the health benefits of recreational sports and emphasize the importance of athletics for all.
