OpenAI, backed by Microsoft, has acquired Rockset, a search and database analytics firm, for an undisclosed amount, as announced by the maker of ChatGPT on Friday.
Rockset’s vector search technology has seen a surge in adoption due to the increasing use of artificial intelligence in recommendation engines, voice assistants, chatbots, and anomaly detection.
Rockset will now be a part of OpenAI and will enhance the retrieval infrastructure for ChatGPT’s products.
By leveraging Rockset’s expertise in real-time data processing and vector search, OpenAI can improve its ability to access and analyze large amounts of data, resulting in faster and more accurate AI model responses.
To stay competitive against Google and Anthropic, OpenAI aims to integrate new features into ChatGPT and develop new AI models.
Reuters recently reported that OpenAI is working on a search engine product to potentially rival Google and AI search startup Perplexity.
Last year in August, Rockset announced raising $105 million in total capital, with investors including Greylock, Sequoia, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s venture capital arm.
