The Premier League and UK pay-TV broadcaster TNT Sports have partnered to trial an AI-powered bodycam that will be used by players on matchday.
Confirmed:
- Bodycam to be used for Wolverhampton Wanderers versus Tottenham Hotspur
- AI-powered stabilisation bodycam from technology company Mindfly will be affixed to a player from each club during the warmup prior to kick off
- Bodycam test will be used in match coverage
Context:
This is the first time a Mindfly bodycam has been trialled in any capacity on a Premier League pitch and will be used to offer a unique storytelling tool and give viewers a players’ view of the warmup. Mindfly’s wearable technology has also been used in a preseason match between FC Koln and AC Milan.
English soccer’s top flight is not completely new to Mindfly. Bodycam trials previously took place during the Premier League Summer Series in the US and were used by players and referees during games.
Comment:
“Finding new ways to bring our fans closer to the action on the pitch is a key focus for us,” said Rachael Nightingale, the Premier League’s head of media operations and innovation.
“After the success of the bodycam trials at the Premier League Summer Series, we are looking forward to seeing what results this test will deliver for TNT and our audiences around the world.”
Coming next:
The bodycams will feature in the warmup of Wolves v Spurs on 11th November.
